An Introduction to My Madness (I)

Since I am returning from a long while away from this blog, I feel that I should reintroduce myself to any potential new readers, even if they just happen by while browsing. For any old readers, or people reading that actually know me, this will serve more as an update on my current interests.

My name is David. On the internet, I’m usually known as Ninja D! or TheNinjaD. Rarely, it’s Istirith or Black Jack Davey. I may still even have some accounts that I no longer use under the names The Lost One or Davidknght. I live in Mankato, Minnesota. I love this city and it is pretty much the hub of south central Minnesota in every way. I’m 24 years old and I work overnights at a truck stop.

Something that seems to be the biggest development in the eyes of many is that I have started drinking. Alcohol, that is. I have always been strongly opposed to the stuff in the past. I guess you could say I gave in to its temptation in a time of weakness. After a series of disappointments, let downs, and otherwise unfortunate happenings, it felt like my life sucked for a little while. That’s when I started. I’m better now, more or less. However, since I can’t really say I don’t drink at all now, I’m not as inclined to avoid it. I’ve actually come to like the taste of UV apple vodka. Rumple Minze isn’t bad, either, and much stronger. Go figure. What hasn’t changed is what I think of alcohol. It’s still stupid because it is, in fact, poison. You really shouldn’t drink it. It’s a bad idea. Also, if you’re drunk out in public, you’re still an asshole. Do it at home and don’t bother anyone. An exception to this is bars because people working there signed up to deal with that shit.

My interests are still primarily music, comic books, video games, and just a whole lot of generally pretty geeky (but no less awesome for that) stuff. I’ve been working a bit more seriously on music than I had been for quite a while and watching a lot more TV shows and movies. I’ve also recently come to like suits and think I just might be wearing them often from now on.

Music. Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of local music from the past and present. Among these are Old Towne Ghosts, Professor Fresh, !ntell!gent Des!gn, Discount Brown (no longer together), Phedge (no longer together), Collabo (no longer together), and probably a number of others that I’m forgetting at the moment. I’ve also been listening to a lot of (hed)PE again. As for what I’ve been working on, that’s mostly still with the project called Behavior Modification Therapy and we’ve actually been making some progress.

Comics. I’m still reading most DC titles, along with the big ones from Top Cow, and a few others. I really need to cut back on what I’m ordering and I’ve been doing that gradually. I’ve also only been ordering comics every other week instead of weekly and I guess that’s probably saving me a bit in shipping costs. I am, of course, still ordering from Midtown Comics. The Green Lantern and Batman books are mostly my favorites but there is a lot of good stuff out there. Probably a bit too much for me to go into right now.

TV and Movies. I am sometimes a Netflix junkie. Lately, I’ve mostly been watching How I Met Your Mother. Before that, I watched all that I could of Louie and Archer. I’m still gradually working my way through Star Trek, little chunks at a time. This week I watched the movie Trollhunter, which was excellent and easy the best found footage movie I have ever seen. The last couple of movies that I saw in theaters were Prometheus and The Avengers, both of which were quite good.

Video Games. I canceled my subscription to SWTOR because I just don’t feel like I have the time to dedicate to it. I’m still bound to WoW for a number of moths yet because of the Annual Pass that I signed up for. If anyone would like to play that with me, I would be very interested. I feel bad that I’m paying for it and haven’t even logged in for so long. I’ve played some Diablo 3, Skyrim, and Mass Effect 3 but I’ve mostly been hooked on Minecraft again, both on PC and Xbox 360.

And there you have it. I think that’s more than enough of a summary for now. I hope you’ll read beyond this point where things may actually become more interesting.

Watch This Space

I’m back.

I’m sure I, and my blog, was not missed terribly by anyone. I missed it some, though. Maintaining regular posting was entertaining to me for some reason. I wasn’t always good at it and I think one of my biggest failings is that I tried to put out a certain kind of content regularly and it became less enjoyable. I won’t be doing that this time. This blog will simply be whatever the hell I feel like talking about. That’s probably not great for building a following but, as you may have guessed by the blog’s name, I don’t really care about that. Also, I will have a different posting schedule than before. It won’t be daily and it won’t be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. While this may yet change, I’m thinking I will have regular, scheduled posts every Tuesday and Friday. There will likely be some other posts on off days but you can’t count on those as much. I also haven’t decided for sure on an exact time of day that these posts will go up but it will probably be sometime in the morning.

Even though I’m starting fresh, I’m keeping all my old posts up. I wouldn’t suggest reading them but they are there, if you’re interested. I just ask that you be aware that those posts don’t really indicate what you will be finding here from now on. I think I probably write a little bit differently and the subject matter may change a bit, though probably not a lot.

I also may be changing the look of this blog. I’m not entirely sure that I will yet but I’m considering it. So, obviously, it won’t be right away. Just don’t be surprised if it does happen.

Now I’ve said what I need to. I guess you can really sum it all up with the first line.

Duty Now For The Future

I’ve been missing posts a lot lately. You wouldn’t see it by looking at this site, though. I’ve also been going back and posting them with a past time. I don’t like that and I’m going to stop doing it.

At the same time, I’m going to change the amount that I post. If I’m not posting every single day, hopefully my posts will be less forced and have better content.

I also want to have a loose plan for this blog from now on. Things may change a bit but what I’m thinking right now is new posts Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Monday posts will be for music, Wednesday for comics (as it has been), and Friday for gaming. Now those are the planned primary topics. Sometimes, possibly often, I will drift from those subjects entirely. Sometimes, probably often, I will post about more than one subject. I also may drop multiple posts on a single day or make sort of bonus posts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So don’t count on any of that. Just watch as this thing continues to evolve.

I’ve also come to the realization that if I don’t become more active in the things that I care about, I’m going to end up hating everything. So keep an eye out for me talking up and promoting things that I really like, even more than I already do. I may also start sort of promoting this blog a bit. At least letting people know it exists, anyway.

This goes into effect starting Monday.

One Month

I just realized that today marks one full month that I have been keeping this blog going with at least one post each week day.

This will probably continue at least until I get through the new 52 comics. After that, I will probably back off a bit. I might do two or three days a week instead. Maybe just one…but I have too much to say for that. We’ll see when the time comes.

The Plan

For the foreseeable future, I will be posting every week day. Each day, I will likely post multiple times. This is the only way to get through talking about all 52 of the new DC comics in a decent amount of time.

Shiny and New

Welcome back, readers! I know you don’t really exist but I will continue to address you as though you do. I sincerely hope that doesn’t bother any of you.

It’s unlikely that anyone reading this would have noticed, since it’s likely your first time here but this blog has changed quite a bit since yesterday. The biggest change is that the theme is different. For those of you not familiar with WordPress or how it works, that basically means that the entire look of the page has changed to some extent. The second change is that I cleaned up the categories. Finally, I changed the title. Hopefully this remodel is an improvement.

I’ll admit, these changes are not huge. I wanted to make the change now before I get really into the swing of regular posting so this will be the look that any readers I have will get used to. I liked the old theme because of how basic it was but I was not totally satisfied with it. Primarily, it was the lowercase “e” that bothered me, though there were some other things that seemed a little off. The look is still very basic and it’s still black words on a white background since other looks can be very rough on the eyes. This combined with cleaning up my categories and a plan to simplify my tagging of posts in the future should all contribute to a much more simple and easy-to-read blog.

About the title; Anyone who read this post probably realized that I was not satisfied with this blog’s old title of The D List. If you’ve read this at all, you’re also probably aware that I acknowledge that I am probably writing this blog for no one but myself and that I’m fine with that. For some reason, it entertains me. With the change in title also came a new url to match.

Now let’s see if anyone reads it.

Back Again (With A Review of Captain America)

Well, I’m back at it. There are a number of subjects I could cover but I’m going to start out easy and stick to just Captain America (the movie) for right now.

Last Wednesday, I went to see Captain America with my girlfriend. The trailer Made the movie look like it would be really good. I’ve also been pleased with the other Marvel Studios films made so far (including Thor). Finally, this movie has Hugo Weaving in it, AS A SUPER VILLAIN. Going into the theater, I thought that all movies with Hugo Weaving in them were contractually required to kick ass.

In short, I was very disappointed with what I saw. There were some cool parts and the high budget was obvious. There was some serious work put into this film and that showed. The 3D was worthless but I didn’t expect any different. Despite all the positive things I could say, however, Captain America failed to hold my interest. My attention wandered and I found myself bored by half way through.

The trouble is that I should have expected this from the start. It was a Captain America movie after all. There is only so much you can do with a character that is so corny and lame. On top of that, if you set a movie in the time period that this one was set in, most people will fall back on bad stereotypes…and they certainly did that here.

In truth, most people will probably enjoy the movie. Most people do seem to enjoy the mindless hero action movies as long as things look good, there is a bunch of crap going on, there are explosions, and a few lame jokes are made. If you’re one of those people (and you know who you are) then go see Captain America right now.

Some Interest

I just posted for the first time today and actually got a couple of comments. Very rarely have I gotten actual comments on blogs in the past so this is very encouraging. Perhaps WordPress is the place for ne to actually do this regularly. According to my statistics, I also got a couple of non-commenting views. Since I didn’t share this with people I actually know yet, that is also very encouraging.

At this point, it looks like a topic of interest for some people would, indeed, be comics. I may just be geeky enough to write about that subject with some small authority.

A New Blog? Maybe.

I have been considering making another attempt at keeping a sort of blog. I am still undecided if I will do so. This is simply a first post from my new iPad to see if I like the feel of it. I am using the WordPress application which seems to work pretty well. On that site, I was able to register under my usual internet handle, which is something that I wasn’t able to do with BlogSpot, though I did like that site.

It is my understanding that WordPress is more widely used and well liked. If I like this site and this service better than what I have previously used, it could keep me coming back more regularly.

If I do decide to fully return to blogging, I am likely to focus on entertainment subjects once again. I may even be more organized about it.

One idea I had was to regularly post about comics, particularly the DC Universe. Now would be a great time to begin with that since there is going to be a relaunch of all DC titles in the coming months, alongside a number of new titles. It isn’t going to be a true reboot, just an attempt by DC to get their shit straight. I, for one, am looking forward to it. I had been out of comics for a few years but I just recently got back into them. I am seriously considering reading all 52 DC titles starting in September, from launch, and the weeding out the ones that I don’t like over time. In doing this, I could keep this blog updated on the current happenings of the DCU and my thoughts on them. At the same time, I could pretend anyone gave a shit.

Another idea I had was to just continue posting random crap. The biggest problem with that is that it doesn’t build any kind of regular readership well. I’m not sure if I really need regular readers but if someone doesn’t read a blog from time to time, what’s the point of posting it at all?

Likely, I will settle on something in between these two ideas, keep it up for a while, the give up on it entirely. Hey, at least I’m honest, right?

Blog Title : The D List

Currently, this blog is titled The D List. That’s mostly because I couldn’t think of anything better and, so far, no one has agreed with me that it is an incredibly lame title. Of course, I have only asked a couple of people. Just think, dear reader, you could be the first to tell me that I’m making myself look stupid on the internet! The first to do so in this forum, anyway.

The title is, of course, a reference to my normal internet handle of TheNinjaD. The original, and still preferred, version of that name is Ninja D!. Unfortunately, you’re not able to use that most places.

Now that you know where one part of the title comes from, you may actually be wondering about the other part. I’m fully aware that you’re actually probably not wondering about that but if you keep reading you’re still going to find out! The D List is to be about things that I enjoy. In a way, i will be listing those things out, over time. I do this for you, dear reader…but since you probably don’t exist, I also do it mostly for myself. Finally, The D List also brings to mind the terms related to “A list” and such. Since the letter D is further along in the alphabet, it suggests that even fewer people are likely to give a shit about this stuff. I think that’s rather fitting, don’t you?
